Church Family,
I pray that your week is blessed! I am looking forward to this coming Sunday; it will be another great one at St. James. This coming Sunday, we will celebrate all women and our mothers on Mother’s Day. This coming Sunday is especially special to Dana and me because it will mark a year since I preached my introductory sermon at St. James. As I reflect on the past year at St.James, I am just amazed at the work that God has done and continues to do. It is an honor to be your pastor.
This past Sunday, we concluded our sermon series “Gradually Then Suddenly”, which focused on spiritual growth and the dangers of apathy, using the biblical story of King David as a central example. The sermon this past Sunday connected the modern concept of "quiet quitting" in the workplace to a similar disengagement from Christianity. The narrative explored David's initial successes and subsequent moral failures, emphasizing how his decision to neglect his duties as king led to destructive choices, including the sin involving Bathsheba. The text reminded us that the significance of making conscious, faithful decisions and warns against complacency, illustrating that neglecting one's spiritual responsibilities can have severe consequences.
The sermon on Sunday concluded with a call for active participation in God's work, an advocacy of service and accountability within the church community, and an affirmation of the mercy and redemption available through Christ. Below, I have included some areas where we need help at our church.
